Healing Shy Cats - How to
Healing Shy Cats - How to
Rocky Caesar is a very "shy" cat. He was the shiest cat at the rescue. He was taken care of very well by the foster and did not live in a pet cage, but rather had the run of the apartment and other cats to play with and excellent food. Nonetheless he is a very "shy" cat by nature and it took a full year because the foster could pet him. The term "shy' may be an inaccurate term when describing this type of behavior in a cat. It may be best to describe it as "fear", or a type of "brain-freeze". He is not an aggressive cat in any way but you can not judge if you can come close to him or not. I have been able to touch his nose and he sniffed out of curiosity. But sometimes he is very fearful and will swat a paw out of defense, so the best way is to let him go fully at his own pace.
I tried various types of healing and soothing music (found mainly on Youtube) and for Rocky-Caesar is seems that the Tibetan healing music relaxes him the best. You can tell this cat is relaxing more by the movement of the eyes and the position of the ears. He is also being feed quality cat vitamins and cat food with no by-products. I will also give him some treats, coconut oil and greens to balance out the diet. often a good diet can heal the mind and it does make sense that good diet for a cat may help them overcome shyness, timidness, fear and even aggression.
I will be adding a small amount of lavender herb to his diet and also a very slight amount of chamomile flower and ginkgo balboa. Lavender is said to have a very good calming effect on animals and is safe for cats in small amounts.
